Conversations by the Glass

Each Wednesday join our Sommelier and GM Tim Rawding for a Marsh House Bar takeover!

During the months of July and August, we will be paying homage to one of the OG wine bars in New York City, Terroir, and their fearless leader Paul Grieco. Several years ago Paul started a movement among wine bars and restaurants not just in NYC but across the country called "Summer of Riesling." Buyers everywhere would stock up on their favorite Rieslings and pour them by the glass, exhibiting the beauty, power and most importantly the versatility that Riesling brings to the table. Come hang at the Marsh House Summer of Riesling as we travel through Germany and the rest of the world to discover what Riesling has to offer.

This week featuring: Maidenstoen Riesling Lafond Vineyard, Sta. Rita Hills, 2015

Winemaker Mike Callahan of Maidenstoen has made a statement in Santa Barbara County. Amidst the rows of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir that eventually make their way into highly prized bottles on highly praised wine lists, he has planted the most noble varietal of all, Riesling. The cool breezes from the Pacific bring out the best in this cool climate varietal and make us think twice about why more winemakers aren’t taking advantage of such an incredible opportunity. At $12 a glass, this is a great opportunity to take time together and reevaluate our expectations of great California wine.
